One of the most tragic web sites completed by Positronic Design is for Sportek Surfaces. This is a wonderful example of web design common in about the year 2000. This site consists of a large graphical template which has been cut up into a graphical banner, and fully graphical navigation, neither of which can be read by the Search Engines. Full service graphic design strikes again. To correct this problem Positronic Design has provided additional text based navigation at the bottom of the web site. Unfortunately, since this text based navigation is not located in the positions where the Search Engines expect to find these links, it will not be read.

This graphical site template has no content management system meaning that even small changes to text need to be done at Positronic Design.  By applying a fully graphical front-end to the site, the owner of the site cannot update his own site navigation or content, necessitating the company’s involvement in even this simple change. Naturally this is not done without incurring significant fees so once again the focus of David Caputo costs his customers money.

Viewing the source of Sportek Surfaces’ web site,  again demonstrates that Positronic Design is at least ten years behind in its search engine optimization techniques. The keyword list for this site is particularly unusable. First, the length of the keyword list is 342 characters when the longest keyword list that Google will read is 300 characters long. Next, the keyword list consists of single words which are useless because with current search engine saturation single word key-phrases can not be ranked. Checking on an industry standard keyword reporting tool, it is clear that none of the keyword phrases used on this site are being searched for by people using search engines. Similarity the meta-description and the title tag are both too many characters and are not constructed out of keywords that people are looking for.

This is a case study of how the sites built by the “full service graphic design” company are not Search Engine Optimized and so serve customers as little more than online brochures, and at bad ones at that. This particular site uses a left justified a web site design that went out of favor more than a decade ago when the average monitor was only 800 pixels wide.  Sportek Surfaces only comes up under its own made up name and none of the search terms that it is ranked for. Despite the fact that this web site can not be ranked David Caputo at Positronic Design still features this antiquated site on the front page of his SEO Company web site.
